Mental Health and Wellbeing

At Redlands Primary School, we are dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of all of our children. We provide a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every child is valued and encouraged to thrive.

Two members of staff – Collen Whiteway (SENDCO) and Christian Lim (KS1 DHT) – are trained as Senior Mental Health Leads. This ensures that there is the knowledge and skills within school to implement a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing.

Mental health education is embedded throughout our curriculum. While explicitly taught through our progressive and age-appropriate PSHE curriculum, it is also woven into other subjects such as RE, Science, and PE, ensuring children develop the knowledge and skills they need to understand and manage their mental health.

We use the language of mental health frequently to reduce stigma and foster an open, supportive culture. Guided by our core values of Kindness, Respect, Determination/Self-Belief, Responsibility, Integrity, and Equality, we help them build resilience and maintain positive mental health. Our assemblies further reinforce key themes, including resilience, kindness, empathy, celebrating difference, and staying safe.

In times of need, our staff provide tailored care and guidance, working closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to offer the best possible support. Children are encouraged to approach any member of staff if they feel they need help, ensuring that no child feels alone during vulnerable or challenging times.

We are committed to helping our children develop into confident, self-aware individuals who are equipped to face the challenges of the future with resilience and positivity.
